'Pakistan Fashion Week kicks off in Karachi'

'(31 Mar 2015) PAKISTAN FASHION WEEK KICKS OFF It wasn\'t just an elegant, artistic and glamorous evening, it was also a display of talent by Pakistan\'s top and aspiring designers which witnessed the opening session of Fashion Pakistan Week 2015 (FPW2015), showcasing spring-summer fashions.  Seven designers and labels showcased their designs during Tuesday\'s (31 MARCH 2015) inaugural night of FPW2015. Saniya Maskatiya, a well known designer, was among those participating. Her collection, called HAYAT, was a tribute to the unsung heroes of design. \"It was titled HAYAT, which means tailor in Arabic,\" said Maskatiya. \"We paid tribute to arts and crafts of tailoring and that\'s the imagery we have used. Spools, threads, scissors, papers and we have done a lot of print-on embroidery, we tried to build up different textures, it\'s a really fun collection, its really bright.\" Nida Azwer\'s collection \"French Trellis\" was also applauded by fashion enthusiasts attending the evening. Azwer termed the collection an expression of her love for vintage and classical design elements. Her clothes featured a variety of luxury fabrics, comprised of organza, chiffon, silks and cotton nets. It was based on hues of beige, grey and off-whites with hints of pink, embellished with hand embroideries.  \"We\'ve done lots of layering, there is a lot of printing, and cut work,\" she said. \"A lot of mixed media is used to create this collection.\" Events director Hassan Shahryar Yasin was excited to see the growth of fashion industry in Pakistan. \"If you want to get the international market interested, and which you should, because textile is one of your largest industries in the world, and in Pakistan, we\'re the second largest manufacturers in the world after China, if we do not get the synergy between textile industry and fashion industry and take it forward, we\'re not going anywhere,\" he said. Around 30 designers are displaying their talent during Pakistan Fashion Week, which runs through April 3.
