'(10 Mar 2017) LUXURY BRAND HERMES STAGES SPLASHY LOS ANGELES EVENT Hermes headed downtown Thursday (9 March) for a splashy Los Angeles event, which included an outdoor runway show and massive party complete with food trucks, interactive displays and a concert. The Paris-based fashion house joins a growing number of brands staging flashy California shows outside of the traditional fashion weeks held in New York, Paris or Milan. \"Why come to LA?\" mused Robert Chavez, the president and CEO of Hermes U.S. \"Well first of all, we have a significant business here on the West Coast, Los Angeles is really the center of that business. Our Beverly Hills boutique is our second largest boutique in the United States. And it was time for us to come downtown. We love the concept of being casual, chic, cool, innovative and surprising and that\'s why we\'re standing here in the warehouse district of downtown Los Angeles right now.\" Hermes took over the gritty, warehouse district for the \"Dwntwnmen\" event showcasing their spring-summer menswear collection, which had previously shown in Paris. The laid-back line, perfect for a day at the beach, was mostly neutral colored pants, shorts and T-shirts with shocking pops of neon yellow. \"You\'re going to see really some beautiful, fresh, spring colors. You\'re going to see some great designs. You\'re going to see an easiness and casualness that is really going to epitomize the lifestyle of Southern California, California in general. But just a very relaxed, fresh and young approach to Hermes clothing. And I think, again, we hope to surprise people to discover something very new and different about us,\" Chavez said. Soft brown leather coats and trousers were paired with plush yellow shirts, strappy sandals and messenger bags. But even the beach bum has to go to class eventually. So designer Veronique Nichanian provided plenty of prep with matching blue shorts and polos, and a grey button-down sweater with bright yellow diamonds -- a playful take on argyle. The show ended with the Beatles\' classic \"All You Need is Love\" blaring as tie-dyed tops in navy, purple, and of course highlighter yellow, made their way down the runway. \"After the runway show, everyone\'s going to be invited into the party and it\'s really a whole evening of discovery. Discovering what we call \'silk records,\' Please Do Touch, where you\'ll be able to touch the fabrics. You\'re going to discover a beautiful, beautiful Hermes upholstered automobile. It\'s a very unique automobile. You will also discover beautiful leather jackets that have been owned by clients who have allowed us to use them and show them tonight. You\'ll also discover the Hermes trailer park and in the trailer park we have airstream trailers that are going to be serving all different types of food, from tacos to haute French cuisine. So it\'s really going to be a fun evening all about discovery, all about innovation and really a lot of surprises,\" Chavez said. Along with a trailer park-themed outdoor space, guests were encouraged to touch fabrics displayed on walls and listen to a retrospective of runway show music on records with covers decorated in signature Hermes silk scarves. Long Beach indie band Cold War Kids performed for the crowd.
