'(4 Oct 2016) KENZO\'S SHOULDER PLAY The spring-summer Kenzo show turned heads before a single model stepped onto the runway, with painted living statues holding various poses. Scattered throughout the space, they were a surprising echo of the carved statues at the Cité de l\'Architecture & du Patrimoine. Begian recording artist, Stromae, said he was surprised at first by the living statues but called them \"a really good idea\" adding, \"I love original ideas like this.\" Tuesday (4 OCT. 2016) evening\'s show celebrated what designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon refer to in the program notes as \"the euphoria of an assembly of cultures.\" It referenced 1977, when Kenzo Takada showed at the Studio 54 club in New York, Grace Jones performed and Jerry Hall walked—three individual personalities with enormous style. As a starting point, the designers looked to the archives of artist and fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez, reinterpreting his late-20th-century work for the contemporary Kenzo woman. At times they transposed images and sketches onto the clothes. Ponchos and military raincoats were turned into voluminous dresses in technical taffeta. Shiny fabrics were contrasted with raw denim or military cotton. Trousers and skirts came with high waists, while shoulders were rounded. Accessories included stiletto sandals with coiled heels and chainmail bags as harnesses or bum bags.
